Cabers welcome teams for Annual Primary Sixes

Our Junior Club was well represented today at Cabers Annual Shinty Sixes. Each age group played a league structure with the top placed side being named champions after all group games were played. Our competition for the day was Cabers, Newtonmore and Inverness.

P2/3 Competition - Coaches Nicki Grant and Liam Eaton
Team: Murray MacLellan, Danny Brindle, Maise Rennie, Hector MacLennan and Morgan Frame.

This was a group of 4 teams and we got off to a great start against Cabers winning 1-0 with a goal from Hector. Next up was Cabers and this game was end to end with both teams showing some great skills. We won this 6-2 with goals from Hector (2) and Danny (4). Our third encounter was against the much favoured Newtonmore and despite some great defending and good work in goal by Morgan they proved too strong for us winning 3-0. Our final game was against Inverness and again this was end to end with neither team yielding and Hector strong in goals. This finished 0-0. Overall we came a respectable second. Congratulations to Nicky, Liam and the team. They did get another chance to play extra games whilst the other competitions were ongoing and they ran out 2-0 winners against Cabers with goals from Murray and Morgan, and finally 3-0 winners against Inverness with goals from Maisie, Danny and Hector. All players in this team scored today and only a handful of goals conceded. Well done everyone.

The P4/5 competition included 2 teams each from Beauly and Cabers and one team each from Newtonmore and Inverness. The teams lined up as follows:

Beauly A - Coach Callum MacPherson:
Team: Logan Morton, Leon Frame, Fraser Coyne, Leo Bain, Finlay Davies, Callum Bain and Jay Hadley.

Beauly B - Coach Simon Owen:
Team: Marcus MacRae, Sam Owen, Aaron Walker, Travis Rodden, Ruaridh MacGregor, Kai Gault and Finlay Monkman.

The lads of both teams played very well throughout the afternoon. Beauly A had wins against Cabers A and B and a draw against Inverness and Beauly B with goals coming from Leo, Leon and Fraser. Beauly B had wins against Inverness, Cabers A and B and draws against Newtonmore and Beauly A with goals from Marcus, Kai and Sam. Both teams defences were amazing and other than they game where both Beauly teams played against each other only 3 goals had been coceded between them. Logan, Finlay, Callum and Jay for the A team did a brilliant job holding the back line and working goal between them. Similarly, Aaron, Travis, Ruaridh and Finlay had a great defensive mix for the A team throughout the afternoon. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of both teams Newtonmore won this competition narrowly Thanks and congratulations to Callum, Simon and their teams.

The P6/7 competition had two teams from Beauly, Cabers, Inverness and one from Newtonmore. The teams lined up as follows:

Beauly A - Coach Ewen MacColl
Team: Ian MacLachlan, Lennox Stewart, Callum MacIver, Finlay (Storky) MacLennan, Michael Brindle, Torrin Cairns and Seb Monkman

Beauly B - Coach Steven MacLachlan
Team: Kenzie Zblewski, Jack Rennie, Niall Bolger, Stuart Robertson, Dylan Allan, Duncan MacPherson and Larry Allen.

Both our teams worked hard in this group with Beauly A winning all their games with goals from Torrin, Michael, Finlay and Seb. This saw them retain the shield they won last year. Beauly B's goals came from Jack and Duncan. As usual the defensive mix of Ian, Callum and Lennox in goal saw Beauly A concede not one goal all afternoon. The defence of Larry, Kenzie, Dylan and Stuart in goal saw them lose only 2 goals in the afternoon. This team are looking good and with the running that Niall does around the pitch making a nuisance of himself to other teams they continue to be a force to be reckoned with. Congratulations and thanks to Coaches Ewen and Steven and both teams.

Our thanks go to Cabers for organising a great competition and providing superb refreshments. Thanks to all referees today. Finally, thanks to parents who helped with transport and cheered the teams on.
